Bergdorf Goodman window displays pay tribute to MET Gala honoree Charles James, British-born fashion designer known as “America’s First Couturier”.
Bergdorf Goodman asked their own masters of craft: Mary Katrantzou, ‘Ralph Rucci’, Libertine, Naeem Khan, Rosie Assoulin, Giambattista Valli, and Rodarte to create seven exclusive one-of-a-kind gowns inspired by the Charles James.
Naeem Khan was inspired to create a gown featuring multiple complicated techniques, including the precise placement of the points, the combination of fabrics, and the degradé of metal sequins.
‘Ralph Rucci’ designed his gown with the skirt attached to the bodice using many layers of emotions.
Rosie Assoulin emulated the lightness and dramatic scale of Charles James garments.
Kate and Laura Mulleavy from Rodarte were inspired by the iconic use of volume as well as his hidden usage of unexpected color.
